The Pilates Method is a conditioning program that was developed over 70 years ago by German-born Joseph H. Pilates (pu-la-teez). Having suffered with asthma rickets and rheumatic fever, Mr. Pilates created the flow of exercises, first called Contrology, to •reform• his own health. By the early 1960s Pilates was sought after by George Ballanchine, New York City Ballet dancers, actors, gymnasts, and figure skaters. Joe felt his work was "50 years ahead of (his) time".
Pilates can dramatically transform the way your body looks, feels and performs. The method works by toning muscles as well as balancing muscular force at the joint level. It stimulates circulation through facilitating muscular flexibility, symmetry and proper musculoskeletal alignment thereby improving your economy of motion - preventing future re-injury and alleviating injuries and chronic pain altogether.
Because you must integrate the entire body into movement, as in life, you cannot progress to a higher level without uncovering isolated weaknesses and training them. Any athlete is only as strong as their weakest part. And athlete or individual, any compensation for a weak or restricted part can lead to injury.
Pilates can effectively balance and lead to a Centered Body!
